MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon basketball teams return to Nemzek Fieldhouse for their final regular season games on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25. The Dragons face off with fellow NSIC opponents Augustana College (S.D.) on Friday with the women at 6 p.m. followed by the men, and Wayne State College (Neb.) on Saturday. The women tip off at 4 p.m. and the men at 6 p.m.
This is one of the biggest weekends hosted by Dragon Athletics. Not only is it the final game of the season for the basketball games but also Alumni Night, Senior Night and Fill the Fieldhouse.
Alumni Night will take place at the Dragon games on Friday, Feb. 24 against Augustana (S.D.). The women start at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. Wear Dragon apparel to the game for an admission price of $3. The Alumni office will have t-shirts for sale along with an alumni table featuring tattoos and face painting. Games Galore will also have two inflatable games for kids to play on.
Saturday help Dragon Athletics break the attendance record at
Fill the Fieldhouse! Nearly $10,000 in prizes will be given away, including a Valley Imports Giveaway vacation valued at over $5,000. Saturday is also Senior Night. At halftime of the women's game all seniors of winter sports will be honored.
DRAGON WOMEN
The Dragon women (14-10, 11-9 NSIC) are No. 7 in the conference and on a one game win streak after falling to Winona State on Friday, Feb. 17 and defeating Upper Iowa University in a huge victory on Saturday, Feb. 18, 97-57.
In the game, the Dragons started out with a 20-10 run in the first seven minutes of play, building a 22-point lead by halftime, 53-31. In the second half MSUM outscored the Peacocks 44-26, giving them the 40-point victory over UIU. The Dragons shot 50 percent in the game going 32-of-64 from the field.
Senior forward
Angie Jetvig led the team and all players with a career best performance of 31 points and 18 rebounds, going 11-of 18 from the field. Sophomore forward
Megan Strese was close behind Jetvig with 19 points and eight rebound, going 6-of-10 from the field.
Morgan Zabel chipped in 11 points.
Jetvig leads the team with a double double of 17.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. These numbers have earned her the No.1 spot in the NSIC and No. 19 in the nation for rebounding and No. 2 NSIC and No. 32 nationally for scoring. She also leads the NSIC and is No. 8 in the nation for her free-throw percentage of .894.
The Dragon women started out the season 4-8. But after their 72-62 victory over Northern State University of Jan. 8 the Dragons have gone 10-2 in the last 12 games, clinching a play-off spot.
DRAGON MEN
The Dragon men (18-6, 14-6 NSIC) are No. 2 in the NSIC and on a one-game losing streak after falling to Upper Iowa in the final seconds on Saturday, Feb. 18, 72-76.
The Dragons had a four-point leading heading into the locker room at half time on Saturday night, 32-28. The Peacocks scored the first points of the second half, cutting the lead to two. But the Dragons were able to pull away and go up by seven after only two minutes of play. After hard back and fourth play by both teams, the game came down to the final seconds.
The Dragons had a one-point lead with just over a minute left in the game. After a three pointer by Sam Elgin, the Peacocks took the two-point lead. With no option but to foul, the Dragons sent Tucker Wentzien to the line. He hit both free-throws, giving the Peacocks the four-point victory.
Three Dragon players scored in double digits on the night.
DJ Hamilton led the team and all scorers with 21 points, three assists and two steals.
Alex Novak went 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line for 17 points to go along with nine rebounds. Senior guard
Jake Driscoll shot 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, contributing 11 total points.
Novak leads the NSIC in rebounds per game with 9.2 and field goal percentage, shooting .651 on the season. Freshman Jordan Riewers is No. 2 in the NSIC for 3-point percentage shooting 51 percent, and
Charlie Chapman is No. 2 in the NSIC for 3-pointers made with 63 on the season, or 2.63 per game.
AUGIE WOMEN
The Augustana women (19-5, 16-4 NSIC) are the No. 2 team in the NSIC and are ranked No. 25 nationally. They are on a one-game losing streak after falling to Wayne State College in a close game on Feb. 18, 56-59.
Augie had a one-point lead over Wayne leading, 25-24 at the half. But the Vikings fell after being outscored by four in the second, shooting only 38 percent from the field, matched with Wayne's 55 percent shooting.
Junior Alex Feeny led the Vikings with a double double, 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Emily Schulte was in double digits as well with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Feeny leads the team with 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
AUGIE MEN
The Viking men (15-9, 12-8 NSIC) are No. 6 in the NSIC and on a one-game losing streak after suffering a 10-point loss to Wayne State, 61-71, on Feb. 18.
The score sat tied at 27 after the first period of play came to an end. In the second half play remained even until Wayne sparked a run and took a lead they would not give up, outscoring the Vikings 44-34 in the period.
Senior guard Cody Scholling led the Vikikngs, going 10-of-10 from the free-throw line for 20 total points and three rebounds. Senior forward Derrick DeZeeuw was big on the boards for Augie with 10 rebounds to go along with six points.
WAYNE WOMEN
The Wildcat women (24-2, 18-2 NSIC) are the No. 1 team in the conference and the No. 3 team in the nation. They are on a nine game win streak, after defeating No. 25 Augustana College on Feb. 18 in Wayne, Neb.
Wayne trailed by one at halftime, 24-25. The Wildcats were able to take the final lead of the game with just over a minute left to play after a back and fourth second half, winning the game, 59-56.
Senior forward Ashley Arlen paced the Wildcats with a double double of 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Alisha Brown was another key contributor, going 5-of-10 from the field for 14 total points. Arlen leads the team with 18 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She leads the NSIC in scoring and is No. 2 in rebounding.
WAYNE MEN
The Wayne State men (8-16, 7-13 NSIC) are No. 10 in the conference and are on a two game win streak after defeating Augustana College by 10 last Friday, Feb. 18.
Augustana and Wayne were tied at 27 at the half. But Wayne was able to pull away, shooting 57 percent from the field compared to Augustana's 38 percent shooting.. The Wildcats took the win, 71-61.
Amry Shelby led the Wild cats with 24 points and eight rebounds. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. Adol Aluong and Derrell Williams were in double digits for the Wildcats as well. Aluong had 15 points and five rebounds, followed by Williams with 13 points and eight rebounds. Shelby leds the team with 14.7 points per game and Williams leads the team in rebounds with 6.7 per game.
WOMEN'S ALL-TIME SERIES
The Dragons and Vikings meet for the 16th time on Friday with the Vikings leading the series 11-4. Augustana defeated MSUM earlier this season at home, 98-66.
Angie Jetvig led both teams in rebounds with 10. The Dragons split the 2010-11 season series as they won at home and lost on the road. MSUM first earned a 63-60 win at home but followed with a 69-63 loss in Sioux Falls, S.D.
As the Wildcats come into Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse, WSC and MSUM will meet for the 30th time. The Wildcats hold the 16-13 edge on the Dragons. The Wildcats beat the Dragons in Wayne, Neb. on Dec. 17 earlier this season, 70-53.

The Dragons and Vikings face-off for the 15th time as the Dragons hold the 8-6 series lead. On Dec. 18, 2011 the Dragons took down the Vikings, 81-76.

Jake Lindfors led the team in scoring with 18 points each. The Dragons swept the Vikings in the 2010-11 season. First, MSUM won 64-61 in at home then followed with a 77-72 win in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Wildcats meet the Dragons for the 25th time on Saturday as the Wildcats lead the series, 19-5. On Dec. 17 earlier this season, the Dragons pulled out a 55-51 victory against the Wildcats.
