WHAT'S AHEAD

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Coming off an Alaska Invitational Championship, the Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team is looking to carry its momentum into two games closer to home this week. MSUM will travel the short distance down 8th Street to face cross-town rival Concordia College on Tuesday night, followed by a trip to Aberdeen, S.D. to face Northern State on Saturday night.

MSUM and Concordia will continue its rivalry on Tuesday night at Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Dragons lead the all-time series over the Cobbers 99-80 and have won the last three matchups over Concordia. A win on Tuesday would be MSUM's 100th victory over Concordia. Last year, the Dragons crushed the Cobbers 102-55 in Nemzek Fieldhouse. Then-sophomore guard Tyler Vaughan and then-junior forward Urbane Bingham each posted 11 points in the win. The Cobbers have played one game so far this season, defeating Minnesota Morris 69-61 on Nov. 15. Four Cobbers scored in double digits in the game, led by senior guard Brandon Giese who had 17. Junior forward Jordan Bolger added 11 rebounds and junior guard Matt Ellingson had six assists.

Next, on Saturday night, the Dragons will travel south to take on Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Northern State. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. The match up will be both teams' first NSIC game of the season. Northern State leads the all-time series over MSUM 62-28. Last season, the Dragons and Wolves split their two games against each other. MSUM came out victorious in a Nov. 30 game at Nemzek Fieldhouse, 87-76. Then-freshman guard Aaron Lien set a then career-high 18 points in the win. Northern State snagged a one-point win 70-69 on Dec. 21 in Aberdeen, S.D. Bingham dropped 22 points to lead the Dragons. Northern State is 4-0 so far this season, defeating Missouri Southern State, Pittsbug State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Truman State. Senior forward Seth Bachand is leading the Wolves with 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. The Wolves have three other players averaging double digits in points, sophomore guard Darin Peterka with 12.0, junior guard Skye Warwick with 10.8, and senior guard Mitch White with 10.0.
