MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team returns home this weekend with games against conference opponents in St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth.
The Huskies of St. Cloud State will travel to Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse on Friday night for a game against the Dragons at 8 p.m. SCSU is coached by Matt Reimer who is in his second season at the helm of the program. The Huskies are 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. They are led by redshirt freshman guard Gage Davis's 19.1 points and seven rebounds per game. Junior guard Scottie Stone is averaging 17.6 points, 1.4 steals and 4.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, the Huskies are averaging 82.1 points per game and 38.6 rebounds per game.
On Saturday, the Dragons will face the Bulldogs of Duluth in another NSIC showdown. The Bulldogs are 6-2 on the season and undefeated at 3-0 in the conference. Senior guard Pierre Newton leads the team with points per game at 17.8 and in rebounds with 7.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Taylor Lavery has 16.5 points and 1.4 assists per game this season. As a team, the Bulldogs have 75.1 points, 37.2 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game this season. Matt Bowen is in his fourth year coaching the Bulldogs.
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK...
The Dragons faced two conference opponents in Minot State and U-Mary as well as non-conference foe in Mayville State. The men went 3-0 on the week and improved to 10-1 on the season {3-0 NSIC}.
In its match against Minot State, the No. 6-ranked Dragons defeated the Beavers 75-63 thanks in part to sophomore guard
Tanner Kretchman's career-highs in points {18}, and assists {8}. Senior guard
Tyler Vaughan had 17 points and eight rebounds while senior center
Isaac Sevlie added 12 points and eight total rebounds with five of them being offensive.
MSUM was 28-of-65 from the field shooting 43.1 percent while the Beavers shot 37.1 percent. The Dragons collected 49 rebounds compared to 35 for the Beavers.
On Saturday, the Dragons traveled to Bismarck to face the Marauders of the University of Mary. MSUM had six players score in double digits to lift them over the Marauders 98-81.
Sevlie continued his dominant play and led all scorers with 22 points and added 13 rebounds and two blocks. Junior guard
Aaron Lien had 21 points and five assists while sophomore guard
Tanner Kretchman added 16 points and for the second night in a row broke his career best in assists with 10. MSUM shot 55.9 percent from the field for the game and 46.4 percent from three-point range. They outrebounded the Marauders 38-25.
In its third and final game of the week the Dragons defeated the Comets of Mayville State 77-56 to extend its winning streak to 10 games.

The Dragons shot 41.1 percent (30-of-73) for the game, compared to 37.7 percent (23-of-61) for the Comets. MSUM led 48-38 in rebounds, including 18-8 on the offensive glass.
The Dragons forced 14 Comet turnovers which led to a 23-5 advantage in points off of turnovers.

NOTABLES...
• The Dragons are now ranked fourth in the latest NABC Division II Coaches poll that came out this week. They have been ranked every week since Dec. 2, 2014. The men started the season ranked 19th but have moved up every week.
• Senior guard
Tyler Vaughan broke the all-time three-point field goals record this beating Jordan Reiwer's record of 222. With his play, Vaughan now has 236 total triples on his career.

Tanner Kretchman have all earned themselves a first place ranking in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this week. Sevlie leads the conference in scoring {21.4 ppg}, offensive rebounds {3.7}, and blocked shots {3.7}. Vaughan leads with 3-point field goals made {11}, and Kretchman with minutes played {35.7}. Kretchman is second in the conference in assists with 7.3 per game.
