Box Score CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team scored in triple digits for the second game in a row and the fourth time this season, defeating the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles by a score of 106-79 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Friday night.
The Dragons are now 20-2 on the season and 12-1 in conference play. Crookston is 3-14 on the year and 1-12 in the NSIC.
MSUM was led by senior center
Isaac Sevlie who had 25 points six rebounds and two blocks on the evening. Junior forward
Ayob Ayob scored a career-high 23 points going an astounding six-of-six from three-point range. Junior forward
Aaron Lien had 15 points and six rebounds while sophomore guard
Tanner Kretchman added 13 points and a career-high 13 assists.
The Dragons shot 62 percent from the field and an unheard of 70 percent from three-point range. MSUM outrebounded Crookston 35-21 and had 30 points from the bench compared to 22 from UMC.
The Dragons took a quick 5-2 lead on a three-pointer from Lien, but the Golden Eagles would respond, scoring the next seven points. A three-point play from Sevlie would give the Dragons a 26-22 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half and they would not trail from there. Senior guard
Ngijol Songolo hit a shot from beyond the arc with four seconds remaining, giving MSUM a 54-42 lead going into the half.
Ayob hit a three with 11 minutes left to lift the Dragons to a nine point lead, 73-64. Another three point play from Sevlie at eight minutes would bring the score to 84-68. MSUM would break the century mark with 3:10 left in the game on a monster dunk from Sevlie.
Songolo added 12 points and three assists for the Dragons while senior guard
Tyler Vaughan had 11 points, six boards and three steals.
The men are back in action Saturday afternoon with a 6 p.m. matchup at Bemidji State.
Steve d'Eustachio Stat of Game:Tonight's win pushes the Dragons record to 20-2 which makes it three consecutive years that the Dragons have reached the 20-win plateau (35-4 last year, 21-8 two seasons ago). It marks only the second time in the history of the program the Dragons have accomplished this feat. The only other time the Dragons won at least 20 games in three consecutive seasons was the 1979/1980 squad that went 21-9, the 1980/1981 team ended 23-6, and the 1981/1982 outfit finished 24-7.
