WHAT'S AHEAD...
MOORHEAD, Minn. – The No. 10-ranked Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team returns home this weekend for the final home games of the regular season. The Dragons will face Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents in Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Both games will be televised live on WDAY'Z Xtra with Steve d'Eustachio and Jared Bledsoe on the call. The games will also be broadcast live online at msumdragons.com.Â
Friday evening the Dragons will host the Beavers of Bemidji State during the Go Pink game. The Beavers are 10-14 overall on the season and 7-13 in the NSIC. They are coached by Mike Boschee who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Beaver program. The Beavers put up 75.3 points per game while allowing 76.3. They grab 35.3 rebounds and dish out 14.6 assists per game. Junior forward Ben Best leads BSU with 12.3 points and 5.3 boards per game. Senior guard DJ Anderson has 11.2 points and 4.8 assists per game while junior forward William Harvey contributes 10.8 per game. Of the 171 all-time meetings, the Dragons hold an 88-83 edge over the Beavers. In their previous meeting this season, the Dragons bested the Beavers 81-68.Â
The University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles travel to Nemzek Fieldhouse Saturday night for the final match of the regular season against the Dragons. The Golden Eagles are 3-21 on the season and 1-19 in conference play. UMC is coached by Dan Weisse who is in his second season as the head coach of the squad. On the year, the Golden Eagles have 66.5 points per game while allowing 77.0. They grab 30.7 rebounds per game and have 10.5 assists per game. UMC is led by sophomore guard C. J. Polk's 13.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while senior guard Derrick Redd Jr. has 11.7 points per game. In the overall meetings, the Dragons hold a 27-7 record. Earlier this season, the Dragons defeated the Golden Eagles 106-79 in Crookston.Â
A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK...
Last weekend, the Dragons swept its competition in Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. Â
Friday night, the Dragons clinched the NSCI North Division title for the third straight year by defeating the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, 75-71. Senior center Isaac Sevlie led the Dragons with 25 points including going 19-of-21 from the charity stripe. Junior guardAaron Lien had 14 points and five boards while sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Tyler Vaughan and junior forward Ayob Ayob had nine points apiece for the Dragons.
MSUM shot 35 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line, going 29-of-34. The Dragons grabbed 39 boards compared to 35 for the Bulldogs.
Saturday night the Dragons defeated the Huskies of St. Cloud State by a final score of 90-82.Â
MSUM was led by senior center Isaac Sevlie's 30 points, nine boards and two blocks. Sophomore guard Tanner Kretchman added 18 points, shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line (9-of-10) while adding nine assists while senior guard Tyler Vaughan had 13 points and five assists. Junior forward Aaron Lien had 12 points and junior guard Ayob Ayob had 10. The Dragons shot 59 percent from the field while the Huskies shot 44 percent. MSUM grabbed 30 rebounds compared to 38 for SCSU. The Dragons converted on 14-of-18 from the charity stripe for 18 percent on the evening.
