Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. – The No. 10 Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team dominated the second half, outscoring Bemidji State 47-15 over the final 20 minutes to roll to a 93-59 win over the Beavers Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Friday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The Dragons are now 26-4 on the season and 18-3 in the NSIC. The Beavers are 10-15 overall and 7-14 in the conference.
Senior center
Isaac Sevlie led all scorers with 25 points including four monster dunks accompanied by six blocks and five rebounds. Junior guard
Aaron Lien had 16 points, nine boards and three steals for the Dragons while senior guard
Tyler Vaughan added 15 points, seven boards and six assists. Sophomore guard
Tanner Kretchman had 13 points and seven assists while junior forward
Ayob Ayob added eight points.
The Dragons shot 52.1 percent from the field going 38-of-73 and grabbed 41 rebounds while the Beavers shot 36.9 percent on the game, just 20.69 percent in the second half and grabbed 40 boards. MSUM got 16 points from the bench and 18 second chance points.
Leading by two at halftime, the Dragons took firm control early in the second half. MSUM came out firing in the second half, starting the half on a 19-0 run, which was a 22-0 overall run thanks to a buzzer-beating three by Vaughan before the half. BSU would not score its first points until the 12:54 mark of the half. The Dragons led by as many as 34 in the second. A block from Sevlie resulting in points from Kretchman with 8:54 to play would boost the Dragon lead to 75-53 with 8:54 to play. A stellar dunk from senior guard
Evan Holt would give MSUM an 83-55 lead with 5:04 to play. Senior guard
Ryan Benoy would put the icing on the cake for the Dragons as he would score his first points on his college career with a triple at the 2:13 mark, 91-59.
The game would be tied at 6-6 with 17:35 to play in the first half before MSUM would go on a run and bring the score to 16-10 with 13:33 to play on a pair of free throws from Sevlie. The Beavers would claw their way back and bring the score to 28-27 with just under eight minutes to play but the Dragons would battle back, going on a 7-2 run and taking a 35-29 lead with five minutes to play. The Beavers would tie the game at 42 with just under a minute to play in the first half before a three at the buzzer from Vaughan would give the Dragons a two point lead going into the half at 46-44.
The Dragons are back in action tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. with a game against Minnesota Crookston.
