MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will make its home debut this week with a pair of doubleheaders. The Dragons will host Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. on Friday and conclude the weekend with a doubleheader against Sioux Falls at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be at the MSUM Softball Field.

The Dragons are 7-9 after their annual Florida spring break trip. MSUM went 5-5 on the trip overall but ended on a three-game winning streak.

Senior outfielder Kristy Bruni leads MSUM in batting average (.408), doubles (six), RBI (12) and slugging percentage (.694). Senior pitcher/second baseman Kristen Nordby is hitting .341 with a team-best three homers and six RBI. Junior center fielder Carly Williamson leads the team with four steals. As a team MSUM is hitting .234 with eight homers and 43 RBI through 16 games.

On the mound, Nordby is 3-3 with a 2.42 ERA in 37.2 innings. She has 28 strikeouts and has walked just 11. Senior Morgan Nybo is 3-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 44.1 innings with a team-best 30 strikeouts. As a team the Dragons have an ERA of 3.06.

Kelsey Fehl is in her sixth season as MSUM's head coach.

About SMSU:  SMSU enters the week at 4-13 overall. The Mustangs were swept by Dakota Wesleyan, 6-2 and 3-2 on March 15 in their last competition. Karmann Carroll leads SMSU with a .382 average while Mackenzie Clouse is hitting .313 with two homers and six RBI. Sam Flack leads with nine RBI for the Mustangs, who are hitting .255 as a team with six homers and 44 RBI. On the mound, junior Alex O'Connor is 2-5 with a 2.94 ERA in 50 innings. She has 58 strikeouts. Jamie Dunn is in her third season as SMSU's head coach with a record of 46-72-1 at the school.

About Sioux Falls: Sioux Falls is 16-7 overall and 0-0 in the NSIC. The Cougars will face Northern State in a doubleheader on Friday before facing MSUM. Kerrigan Hoshaw leads USF with a .488 average while Brooke Stetzler is hitting .434 with 11 stolen bases. Alyson Netty has eight homers and 24 RBI for the Cougars, who are hitting .332 as a team with 24 homers and 113 RBI. On the mound, Breanna Black is 8-3 with a 1.98 ERA while Hoshaw is 8-4 with a 2.92 ERA. Kelsey Thompson is in her third season as the USF head coach with a record of 78-47 at the school.
