Dragon Softball Hits the Road for Three NSIC Doubleheaders This Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team continues action this week with three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheaders on the road this week. MSUM will play at Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, and then head south to face Augustana on Saturday and Wayne State on Sunday.

The Dragons are 7-13 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. They were swept at home by Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls last week, with both losses to SMSU coming by one run.

Senior Kristy Bruni leads MSUM with a .356 average. She has six doubles, two homers and a team-best 12 RBI. Senior Kristen Nordby is hitting .320 with three homers and six RBI. Junior center fielder Carly Williamson leads with stolen bases for the Dragons, who are hitting .221 as a team with eight homers and 46 RBI.

On the mound, Nordby is 3-5 with a 3.23 ERA in 47.2 innings, while senior Morgan Nybo is 3-7 with a 3.42 ERA in 57.1 innings. Nybo leads with 40 strikeouts.

Kelsey Fehl is in her sixth season as the MSUM head coach.
About Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs are 13-8 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC.  They split a pair of conference doubleheaders against St. Cloud State and Minnesota State last weekend in St. Cloud, Minn. Natalie Wright leads UMD with a .348 average, while Becky Smith had four homers and 21 RBI. UMD is hitting .233 as a team with nine homers and 86 RBI. The Bulldogs are also aggressive on the bases, stealing 58 bases in 66 attempts. On the mound Cayli Sadler is 8-4 with a 2.39 ERA in 67.1 innings. Jen Walter is in her first season as UMD's head coach.

About Augustana
The Vikings are 17-10 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC.  They went 3-0 on a road trip to North Dakota last weekend. Carley Pickett leads Augustana with a .404 average, while Carly Peterson is hitting .398 with three homers and 17 RBI. Maggie Kadrlik leads with seven homers and 30 RBI. As a team, Augustana is hitting .333 with 25 homers and 150 RBI in 27 games. Pickett is 10-5 on the mound with a 2.79 ERA for the Vikings while Karlee Kooperman is 6-5 with a 1.83 ERA. Gretta Melsted is in her 10th season as Augustana's head coach with a record of 367-170 at the school.

About Wayne State
The Wildcats are 10-15 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC. They swept Minot State and Mary on the road last weekend. Emily Chandler is hitting .465 for the Wildcats while Lexie Loos is hitting .452. Abbie Hex leads with five homers for Wayne State, which is hitting .317 as a team with 19 homers and 117 RBI. On the mound, Cassy Miller is 7-10 on the mound with a 5.22 ERA. Shelli Manson is in her second season as the Wayne State head coach with a record of 44-36 at the school.
