MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team wraps up the regular season this week with three doubleheaders. The week starts for MSUM on Wednesday at St. Cloud State for a 3 p.m. doubleheader, and concludes this weekend with home doubleheaders against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
Saturday's home doubleheader with Minnesota Crookston, which begins at 1 p.m.
MSUM still remains alive in contention for a berth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament with six games remaining. The top 10 teams in the regular-season standings qualify for the tournament.
The Dragons are 14-26 overall and 7-17 in the NSIC. They went 4-4 overall last week, sweeping Minot State, while splitting with Northern State and Winona State before being swept by Upper Iowa to close out the week.
Senior left fielder
Kristy Bruni is hitting .300 with three homers and 19 RBI. Senior second baseman/pitcher
Kristen Nordby is hitting .279 with three homers and 13 RBI. Freshman shortstop
Taylor Roddie has six doubles, a homer and 10 RBI. Junior first baseman
Lauren Meeker has a team-best nine doubles. As a team the Dragons are hitting .228 with 13 homers and 92 RBI through 40 games.
On the mound, senior
Morgan Nybo is 6-14 with a 3.23 ERA while Nordby is 7-11 with a 4.16 ERA. Each has one complete game shutout on the season. MSUM's team ERA is 4.07.
Kelsey Fehl is in her sixth season as the MSUM head coach.
About St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State is 23-26 overall and 9-15 in the NSIC. The Huskies have lost nine of 10, with the lone win coming against Augustana on April 16. Rebecca Harps leads St. Cloud State with a .356 average while Jessica Goerger is hitting .352 with 11 homers and 37 RBI. As a team St. Cloud State is hitting .296 with 25 homers and 192 RBI through 49 games. On the mound, Senna Francesconi is 11-10 with a 3.85 ERA in 145.1 innings. The Huskies have an ERA of 3.74. Paula U'Ren is in her 19th season as the SCSU head coach with a record of 613-422 at the school.
About Minnesota Crookston
Minnesota Crookston is 9-35 overall and 3-21 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles split doubleheaders with Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State last weekend. Gabriel Antolak is hitting .345 for Crookston while Victoria Bayliss is hitting .338. Alexis Khoshaba leads with six homers and 33 RBI. As a team the Golden Eagles are hitting .284 with 23 homers and 147 RBI in 44 games. On the mound Bailey Braatz is 3-18 with a 6.91 ERA in 100.1 innings. The Golden Eagles have a team ERA of 7.23. Don Stopa is in his second season as the UMC head coach with a record of 13-79 at the school.
About Bemidji State
Bemidji State is 27-15 overall and 10-9 in the NSIC. The Beavers enter the week on a six-game winning streak. Kelsey McAllister is hitting .391 with nine homers and 19 RBI for Bemidji State, while Jessica Yost is hitting .354 with nine homers and 29 RBI. Lyndsey Peterson is hitting .328 with a team-high 10 homers and 31 RBI. As a team Bemidji State is hitting .298 with 38 homers and 170 RBI in 42 games. On the mound Yost is 15-6 with a 1.76 ERA in 143 innings. She has 224 strikeouts. Rick Supinski is in his fourth season as Bemidji State's head coach.
