MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team continues its season-opening five-game homestand this weekend with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. MSUM hosts Southwest Minnesota State at noon on Saturday and wraps up the weekend with a game against Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Both games will be at the MSUM Soccer Field.
The Dragons lead the all-time series with Sioux Falls 4-2-1.  The last MSUM win in the series came in 2012 when the Dragons prevailed 2-0.  Last year the two teams battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie. MSUM and SMSU have met 25 times in women's soccer with the Mustangs holding a 12-10-3 series lead. SMSU has won the past four meetings.
"We are going back to work this week at training to remind ourselves what we are capable of," MSUM head coach 
Christie Chappell said. "It is a process for the team and we are looking forward to getting back on the field for some more NSIC action."
The Dragons dropped their only game last week, a 4-0 contest to Northern State, in the NSIC opener for both teams on Sept. 11. Junior goalkeeper 
Reagan VonBerge had 11 saves for MSUM in the defeat.
Senior 
Jessica Johnson and sophomore 
Annika Greaney share the team lead with one goal and two points. Johnson leads in shots (11) and shots on goal (four). Sophomore 
Jessica Dallman has three shots, all on goal. Jenson and Dallman each have an assist.
VonBerge leads the goalkeepers with 16 saves in two games.  Freshman 
Kennedy Rodgers picked up the win against Black Hills State on Sept. 3 after playing in the second half and recording seven saves. Junior 
Corina Edgington has three saves in a half of action.
Christie Chappell is in her first season as MSUM's head coach.
About SMSU
SMSU is 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Mustangs beat Sioux Falls,  3-2 in overtime on Sept. 9 to open conference play.  Their other victory was a 1-0 nonconference win over Washburn.   Four different Mustang players have scored goals this season: Amanda Hartmann, Natalie Zobel, Brenna Giddings and Fabiana Peiro. Emily Huddleston has an assist. The Mustangs have recorded 35 shots in four games with 17 on goal. They have allowed seven goals to their opponents. Jessica Craigmile has started all four games in net for SMSU. She has allowed seven goals and recorded 24 saves this season and has one shutout win.
Erin Kasmarik-Mallett is in her second season as SMSU's head coach.
About Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls, which faces Northern State on Saturday prior to facing MSUM, enters the week at 0-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC. The Cougars lost to SMSU, 3-2 in overtime and Northwest Missouri State, 5-0 in action last weekend. Three different Cougars have scored goal this season: Lola Weiss, Brooke Jensen and Jackie Montes. Lauren LaFavre has an assist. Weiss leads with eight shots, including five on goal. Jensen has six shots, including three on goal. Morgan Perkins has been the primary goalkeeper for the Cougars. She has 35 saves through four games and a 2.56 goals allowed average.
Brittany Goosen is in her second season as USF's head coach.

Reagan VonBerge set a career-high with 11 saves with the loss to Northern State. She leads MSUM with 16 saves on the season.
First Win for Coach
The 2-1 victory over Black Hills State was the first head coaching win for MSUM head coach 
Christie Chappell, who is in her first season. Chappell is just the third head coach in the program's 21-year history.
Johnson Hits the Net Again
Senior forward 
Jessica Johnson scored the fifth goal of her collegiate career in the 2-1 win over Black Hills State. Johnson's goal tied the game at 1-1 and set up the Dragons to win the game in the final 10 minutes.
