Box Score 1 WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team fell to Minnesota Crookston, 8-5 in a nonconference game Monday afternoon at the West St. Paul Dome in West St. Paul, Minn.

MSUM fell to 1-4 on the season. The Dragons beat Anoka-Ramsey Community College in an exhibition later in the day.

Freshman catcher Emma Dummer went 2-for-3 with an RBI while sophomore Savanah Tweet was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Freshman Madison Paige was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI while sophomore outfielder Aunica Novacek was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Roddie, freshman Jordan Hall, senior third baseman Kristina Villalobos and senior outfielder Carly Williamson each had hits. Williamson reached base three times, twice on walks.

Hall took the loss for MSUM, going three innings and allowing four earned runs. She gave up six hits and walked five. Freshman Becky Volkert finished for MSUM and gave up four earned runs, seven hits while walking two.

"We have to work on making adjustments at the plate earlier in the game," MSUM head coach Kelsey Fehl said. "Once we did that we were able to produce runs. Our pitchers are young and gaining experience and need to continue to work on throwing strikes and keeping hitters off balance."

A positive for MSUM was defense as the Dragons did not commit an error in the field.

MSUM trailed 3-0 after the top of the second but got on the board, as Dummer reached on an error and moved to third on a single by Hall. Tweet's RBI groundout scored Dummer with the Dragons' first run.

The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 6-1 before MSUM cut into the lead in the fourth.  Senior first baseman Lauren Meeker led off with a walk and was pinch-ran for by freshman KyLee Bartholomay, who moved to second on a passed ball. Dummer singled to score Bartholomay with the second run for MSUM. One out later, Tweet doubled to score Dummer, cutting the lead to 6-3. Williamson walked, and Novacek came up with a big two-out hit as she singled to score Tweet to bring MSUM within 6-4.

MSUM's deficit grew to 8-4 after the fifth. The Dragons climbed within 8-5 when a Paige double scored Roddie but got no closer.

MSUM faces Bemidji State at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and will face Minnesota Crookston at 11 a.m.
