Dragon Softball Kicks Off Florida Trip on Sunday vs. Nyack and Northwood

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will travel to Clermont, Fla. for the NTC College Games this weekend. The Dragons will play 10 games on the trip, beginning with two games on Sunday against Nyack College and Northwood.

MSUM is 2-5 on the season after competing in a pair of nonconference dome tournaments.

Freshman Emma Dummer is hitting .389 with a homer and four RBI for MSUM. Sophomore Taylor Roddie is hitting .381 while sophomore Aunica Novacek is hitting .375. Freshman Madison Paige is hitting .360 with two homers and eight RBI, both team bests. Senior Carly Williamson is hitting .348. As a team the Dragons are hitting .305 with five homers and 27 RBI.

On the mound freshman Tori White is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA. Freshman Becky Volkert is also 1-1 with a 4.44 ERA. Freshman Jordan Hall leads with seven strikeouts.

Kelsey Fehl is in her sixth season as MSUM's head coach.

About the Opponents
About Nyack (5 p.m. Central time, March 5)
The first team they will face is Nyack College, who are 0-4 on the season. They are led by junior Aferdita Sinanaj, who has a .556 average this season. Sophomore Alissa Burgnoli has a .444 average, while Sarah Spindel has a .333 average this season. They are led on the mound by Nicole Wisser, who has a 4.20 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched this season.

About Northwood (7:30 p.m., CT, March 5 and 2:30 p.m., March 7)
They will follow that up with a game against Northwood University, who have a 2-4 record. They are led by Sydni Pauley, who has a .389 average, while Danielle Bartodziej has a .385 average. Courtney Wensley has a .364 average, while three players have .333 averages. On the mound, they are led by Taylor Wright, who is 2-2 with a 2.00 ERA. She has 11 strikeouts in 14 innings.

About Pitt-Johnstown (5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., March 6)
Pitt-Johnstown, which opens the season in Florida on Sunday,  was 10-23 last season. The team finished 7-13 in conference play. All-conference outfielder Morgan Cannin returns to lead the lineup after hitting .312 a year ago.  The top returning pitcher is junior Melissa Wagner who was 5-16 last season with a 3.33 ERA.

About Felician (5 p.m., March 7)
Felician College, who are 2-3 on the season. Their top hitters are Steph Donah and Mia Montoya, who both have .467 batting averages this season. Nicole Spiegelberg has a .462 average, while Zeaenna Brackett has a .368 average. On the mound, they are led by Ashley Owens, whi is 2-1 with a 1.58 ERA and nine strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched.

About Bentley (8 a.m., March 8)
Bentley has yet to play a game this season. They will be led by Kelsey Kennedy, who had a .363 average last season with one home run. Their top returning pitcher is Kelsey Smith, who had a 5-4 record with a 2.80 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched.

About West Virginia Wesleyan (1 p.m., March 8)
They will also face West Virginia Wesleyan, who have not yet played a game this season. Last season, they were led by Olivi Gore, who batter .365 with two home runs last season. Their top returning pitcher is Hannah Vet, who was 24-5 with a 0;.84 ERA last season. She also had 102 strikeouts in 192.1 innings pitched.

About Wilmington (2:30 p.m., March 9)
They will follow that up with a game against Wilmington University, who are 3-3 on the season. They are led by Rosa'Lynn Burton, who is batting .500 with five runs batted in. Their top pitcher is Caitlyn Whiteside, who is 2-1 on the season with a 0.35 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.

About Walsh (5 p.m., March 9)
Walsh University is 1-4 on the season. They are led by Jenna Head and Nikki Newman, who both have .333 batting averages on the season. On the mound, they are led by Olivia Pifer, who is 1-2 on the season with a 2.37 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched.
