MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this week with three doubleheaders on the road. MSUM will face Northern State on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader to open the week and then follow with twinbills at Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston this weekend.
MSUM (5-12) has not played since March 9 when it completed its Florida trip. The Dragons have played Minnesota Crookston four times this season, all in nonconference games, and are 2-2 against the Golden Eagles on the year. MSUM also faced Bemidji State in a nonconference game and lost 7-3 in February.
The Dragons are hitting .311 on the season with seven homers and 62 RBI. Sophomore shortstop
Taylor Roddie is hitting .393 with three homers and 11 RBI. Senior outfielder
Hannah Klug is hitting .367 with four RBI while freshman infielder
Emma Dummer is hitting .366 with a homer and five RBI. Freshman outfielder
Madison Paige is hitting .349 with two homers and 11 RBI while sophomore outfielder
Aunica Novacek is hitting .333.
On the mound, MSUM is led by freshman
Tori White, who is 4-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 40.1 innings. She has 14 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher
Becky Volkert is 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA.
Kelsey Fehl is in her seventh season as MSUM's head coach.
About Northern State
The Wolves are 15-9 on the season. They went 2-4 at the Missouri Western tournament last weekend in St. Joseph, Mo. Jenna Helgesson leads Northern State with a .382 average along with five homers and 18 RBI. Katie Dawson is hitting .360 with five homers and 22 RBI. As a team the Wolves are hitting .309 with 20 homers and 125 RBI in 24 games. On the mound Rachel Albright is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA while Jamie Fisher is 6-3 with a 2.01 ERA. Kristi Villar is in her seventh season as Northern State's head coach with a record of 146-171 at the school.
About Bemidji State
Bemidji State, which faces Minnesota Crookston on Thursday prior to facing MSUM, is 10-5 on the year after going 10-3 on its trip to Florida. Senior Jessica Yost is hitting .450 with three homers and 15 RBI while Alexandra Ripka is hitting .431 with seven RBI. As a team Bemidji State is hitting .321 with 10 homers and 69 RBI in 15 games. On the mound Yost is 7-2 with 1.10 ERA in 57.1 innings; she has 113 strikeouts. Rick Supinski is in his sixth season as Bemidji State's head coach.
About Minnesota Crookston
Minnesota Crookston, which faces Bemidji State and Northern State prior to facing MSUM, is 10-12 on the season. The Golden Eagles went 5-5 on their trip to Arizona. Victoria Bayliss is hitting .370 while Hailey Fitzpatrick is hitting .367 with 12 RBI. The Golden Eagles are hitting .285 as a team. On the mound Bailey Braatz is 8-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 67 innings. Don Stopa is in his third season as Minnesota Crookston's head coach with a record of 25-95.
