Dragon Softball Continues NSIC Play this Week with Three Doubleheaders

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this week with three doubleheaders. First, the Dragons host Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, April 4 for games at 2 & 4 p.m. This weekend, MSUM hits the road for series at Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State.

MSUM (7-16) split both of its series this weekend, going 1-1 against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.

The Dragons are hitting .307 with 82 RBI and seven home runs. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Roddie has started in all 23 games and averages .373 with 15 RBI and three home runs. Freshman outfielder Madison Paige is hitting .357 with a team leading 16 RBI and 10 doubles. Senior outfielder Carly Williamson is averaging .329 at the plate and leads with 18 runs. Freshman Payton Gaber has only played in four games, but has hit an impressive .700 with seven hits and two runs scored.

Freshman Becky Volkert's 3.60 ERA leads the Dragons pitching staff. Volkert is 3-2 in 48.2 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts.

Kelsey Fehl is in her seventh season as MSUM's head coach.

About Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs are 21-9 this season, and 5-1 in NSIC play. UMD went 2-0 against St. Cloud State and U-Mary before splitting with Minot State. Sammi Sadler leads the Bulldogs with a .402 batting average and 16 RBI. Lauren Oberle averages .314 and leads the team with five home runs and 26 RBI. Sam Hartmann has pitched 85.0 innings and is 10-3 with a 1.65 ERA. Jen Walter is in her second season as Minnesota Duluth's head coach with a 56-26.

About Sioux Falls
The Cougars, which face Minnesota State Mankato before playing MSUM, opened up conference play 3-3 and are 16-15 overall. USF split with Southwest Minnesota State, and swept Upper Iowa before being swept by Winona State. Miranda White is batting .500 with five funs scored and one RBI. Jasmine Ragusi is batting .323 and leads with 21 RBI with four homers. Courtney Mathews has a team-low 3.68 ERA in 66.0 innings pitched with a 5-6 record. Kelsey Thompson is in her fourth season at the helm for Sioux Falls.

About Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs are 12-10 overall and 3-3 in the NSIC. SMSU has doubleheaders with Concordia-St. Paul and Northern State before facing MSUM. Victoria Brooks leads with a .359 batting average. Brooks has 10 runs scored with one homer and five RBI. Abbie Decker leads with 12 RBI and a .310 average. Alex O'Connor has a 2.52 ERA with a 5-5 overall record. O'Connor has thrown 72.1 innings with 53 strikeouts and 17 walks.
