Dragon Volleyball Opens Season at Minot State Classic

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead volleyball team finished its 2016 season 10-18, 5-15 NSIC. The Dragons return seven letterwinners and welcome eight newcomers. The Minot State Classic will kick off the 2017 season. The five-team, two-day tournament is hosted by Minot State University and will take place in the Minot State Dome.

Montana State University Billings
The Yellowjackets come from a 2016 season where they went 7-23 overall and 5-15 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. MSUB returns key player, Miranda McConnell, a junior who recorded 158 kills on a .211 attack percentage and tallied 60 total blocks last season. The Dragons are 3-0 all-time against the Yellowjackets.

Bemidji State University
The Beavers had an overall record of 7-22 and went 3-17 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference during the 2016 season. Bemidji State has only five letterwinners returning while 10 newcomers join the program. Among the returners is sophomore Julie Touchett who was named BSU's player to watch in the NSIC's season preview. Touchett finished her freshman season on the team with 64 total blocks, 139 kills and 21 service aces. The Dragons lead the Bever's all-time, 76-55. The last time the two teams met, MSUM came out on top with a 3-2 victory.

Minot State University
Minot state finished its 2016 season 5-24 overall and 0-20 in the NSIC. The Beaver's 2017 roster is fairly experienced, returning six starters and eight letterwinners, including outside hitter Brileigh Boyce whom the NCIS announced as Minot States preseason player to watch. Boyce enters her junior campaign after recording 84 kills, 55 digs and 23 blocks her sophomore season. MSU Moohead leads Minot State all-time, 10-1, including last seasons 3-0 win over the Beavers.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology
The Hardrockers, under the direction of new head coach Jenni Bolduc, completed their 2016 season 1-28 overall and 0-18 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Hardrockers return middle hitters Anna Breidt who led the team in kills last season (210) and Emily Newton who led the team in blocks with 64. The Dragons have only faced the Hardrockers once before, in 2014, and won 3-1.
