MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead men's basketball team (7-21, 5-17 NSIC) will travel to take on Minnesota State University, Mankato in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

LOOKING BACK...
MSUM split its final pair of regular season games, falling to St. Cloud State, 88-78 before defeating Minnesota Duluth, 71-67.

Against the Huskies, senior guard Tanner Kretchman led with 22 points and four assists, while junior forward Addison Park wasn't far behind with 21 points and three rebounds. Sophomores Johnny Beeninga and Matt Anderson scored 10 points, each. Anderson also lead with four rebounds.

In the Dragons' win over UMD, Beeninga led with career-high 29 points, while Kretchman added 17 points and seven assists. Jake Johnson led MSUM with six rebounds, while Park had five.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION...
Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Mavericks finished their regular season 20-8 overall and 16-6 in the NSIC. Last weekend MSU fell to both Southwest Minnesota State (82-70) and Sioux Falls (88-81), falling to a second place finish in the South while SMSU took first.

Charlie Brown leads the Mavericks with 16.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. Kevin Krieger is averaging 16.2 points per game, while Chris Kendrix is averaging 12.5 points. Kendrix leads with 7.0 rebounds per game. Krieger holds a second-best three-point field goal percentage in the NSIC at 52.7 percent.

As a team, Minnesota State scores NSIC-best 83.0 points per game, while holding opponents to 76.1 points. The Mavericks are outrebounding its opponents, 36.4-34.3.

Matt Margenthaler is in his 17th season as head coach at Minnesota State, Mankato with a record of 351-143.

Kretchman Breaks Records

Senior Tanner Kretchman became the all-time career assist leader earlier this season in MSUM's victory over Northern Michigan. Kretchman now has 560 career assists. For the first time in the school's history Kretchman has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 200 assists. In MSUM's loss to Northern State he became the first MSUM player to reach 500 assists. Kretchman is also seventh all-time in scoring with 1,608 points and is now second in career three-point field goals made with 266. The senior is also leading the NSIC this season in three-point field goals made, averaging 3.0 per game.

Coad Hits 8th Double-Double
Junior guard Travaun Coad hit his eighth double-double of the season against Upper Iowa, Feb. 3 with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The junior guard became the first Dragon to earn a double-double in four or more consecutive games since Alex Novak (Feb. 16-27, 2013) when he had five in a row Jan. 5-19. Coad leads the Dragons in double-doubles this season.

Consistency From Park
Junior Addison Park has been a steady player for the Dragons to rely on this season. Park has scored in double-digits in 18 games this season, including a career-high of 25 points at Minnesota Crookston. The junior is averaging 4.5 rebound per game and also holds a team-best in blocks with 15. Park leads the Dragons in field goal percentage with .400 (143-of-250), ranking tenth in the NSIC.

Sophomores Shine
With only one senior on the team this year some younger players stepped up to take a bigger role on the team. The Dragons starting lineup includes sophomores Johnny Beeninga and Matt Anderson. Beeninga scored a career-high 29 points in the Dragons' win over Minnesota Duluth last weekend. He is second on the team, averaging 14.6 points per game and adds 59 assists. Anderson is averaging 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, including a season-high of nine rebounds at Concordia-St. Paul. He also adds six blocks and four steals.

Offensive Distribution
The Dragons have gotten some great offensive distribution this season with four players averaging at least 12.0 points per game. Tanner Kretchman (16.1), Johnny Beeninga (14.6) , Travaun Coad (12.8),  and Addison Park (12.3).

All-Time vs. Opponent
MSUM will meet Minnesota State Mankato for the 98th time with the Mavericks leading  the series, 33-64. When the teams met previously this season, MSU won, 81-58.
