BISMARCK, N.D. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team defeated Minnesota State, Mankato 7-2 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday night in Bismarck, N.D.
MSUM is now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the league while MSU fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the league.
"Again we got out to a great start with doubles and didn't look back from there," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "They were a quality team but we were just a bit stronger across the board."
The Dragons swept all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles freshman
Julia Geske and sophomore
Olivia Keelin picked up an 8-2 win over the Mankato duo of Erin Streeter and Monika Ryan. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Alexis Konecne and freshman
Swenne Albert beat Kylie DeWees and Nina Risselman, 8-1. Senior
Ricquel Ramsbottom and sophomore
Emma Zamora completed the sweep with an 8-4 win over the Maverick tandem of Valerie Bresnahan and Camila Ojeda.
MSUM went 4-2 in doubles. Geske outlasted Streeter, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 1 singles. Sophomore
Alyssa Wolf dominated Ojeda, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Ramsbottom beat Risselman, 6-3, 6-3. Konecne won in similar fashion, 6-3, 6-3 against Madeline Muotka.
The Dragons will face Southwest Minnesota State at 9 a.m. on Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
