ORLANDO, Fla. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 win over the University of St. Francis in action Thursday evening in Orlando, Fla.
MSUM is now 10-2 on the year after going 4-1 on the Florida trip while St. Francis fell to 3-8.
"For most of our players this was their first match on a clay court so to come out with a win was awesome," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "
Emma Zamora was able ton step into the lineup with Olivia not feeling well and clinch the deciding match."
The Dragons won two of three doubles matches. At No. 2, freshman
Swenne Albert and sophomore
Alexis Konecne picked up an 8-1 win over the USF duo of Merle Schlaeger and Michelle Robert. Senior
Ricquel Ramsbottom and sophomore
Emma Zamora dominated Alyssa Larsen and Katie Monahan, 8-0, for MSUM's second doubles points.
The teams split the six singles matches, with St. Francis winning at the first three singles slots. MSUM won at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles.
Ramsbottom beat Larsen, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles while Konecne beat Michelle Robert, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Zamora clinched the win for MSUM with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win over Haley McLain at No. 6 singles.
MSUM is off until March 17 when it hosts the University of Mary at noon at Courts Plus in Fargo.
