MSUM Women's Tennis to Face Sioux Falls to Open NSIC Tournament on Saturday

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The third-seeded Minnesota State University Moorhead tennis team will face sixth-seeded Sioux Falls in the opening round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Lifetime Fitness Oakdale Tennis Village Center in Minnetonka, Minn.

The two-day tournament will continue with the semifinals and championship match on Sunday.  This is the fifth straight season that the Dragons have qualified for the conference tournament.

MSUM beat Sioux Falls, 7-2 on Feb. 17 in Sioux Falls.

The Dragons wrapped up the regular season on April 7-8, when they beat Upper Iowa 9-0 and lost to Winona State 6-3. The loss to Winona snapped a seven-match win streak for the Dragons that had dated back to early March.

The Dragons finished the regular season third in the NSIC standings with an overall record of 14-3 and a conference record of 9-2. The lone losses for MSUM came to Augustana, who won the conference title, and Winona State, who finished just one game behind the Vikings in the standings.

The Dragons are led by sophomore Alexis Konecne, who is 14-1 this season in singles play. Senior Ricquel Ramsbottom is 14-3 this season, while sophomore  Alyssa Wolf is 10-6. In doubles play, the Dragons are led by Ramsbottom and sophomore Emma Zamora, who both have 12-2 records. Sophomore Olivia Keelin has a 12-4 record, while freshman Julia Geske has a 11-4 record this season in doubles play.

Head coach Oliver Summers is in his sixth season as head coach at MSUM.

About Sioux Falls
The Cougars are 11-6 overall and finished 7-4 in the NSIC. They lost to Minnesota Duluth 6-3 in their final match of the regular season on April 8. Chloe Jefferies is 14-3 in singles to lead the Cougars while Joelle Thorfinnson is 11-6. Rachel Klatt is 11-5 in doubles for USF.
