MINNETONKA, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team earned a 5-1 win over the University of Sioux Falls in the quarterfinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament on Saturday at Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn.
MSUM is now 15-3 on the season and advances to face Winona State in Sunday morning's semifinals.
The Dragons won two of three doubles matches and prevailed at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to take the win. Once a team reaches five points the victory is clinched and the ongoing matches remained unfinished.
"I was proud of our team today, they handled the pressure really well against a team that had nothing to lose," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Now we get to play Winona again and we're the team with nothing to lose. We're going to give it our best shot and go for it."
Freshman
Swenne Albert and sophomore
Alexis Konecne picked up an 8-2 win over USF's Lexi Miller and Megan Quandt at No. 2 doubles, while at No. 3 doubles senior
Ricquel Ramsbottom and sophomore
Emma Zamora picked up an 8-4 win over Kelsie Sanders and Rachel Klatt. USF won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Sophomore
Olivia Keelin picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for MSUM over USF's Quandt. Sophomore
Alyssa Wolf downed Sanders, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles for MSUM while Konecne beat Courtney McCans, 6-1, 6-0.
The Dragons will face Winona State at 8 a.m. on Sunday in the tournament semifinals.
