WINONA, Minn. – The seven-match winning streak came to an end for the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team on Sunday as the Dragons fell to Winona State, 6-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action in Winona, Minn.
MSUM finished the regular season at 14-3 overall and 9-2 in the NSIC while Winona State improved to 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the league. The Dragons finished in third in the standings and will be the No. 3 seed at the NSIC tournament on April 21-22 at Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn.
"I was proud of our team today, they gave all they could and just didn't quite have enough," MSUM head coach 
Oliver Summers said. "We'll be working hard preparing for the conference tournament will come back stronger and better."
Winona State won at No. 1 doubles by a tight 9-7 score and also prevailed at No. 3 doubles. MSUM won at No. 2 doubles as sophomore 
Alexis Konecne and freshman 
Swenne Albert beat Kendra Kappes and Rachel Gantz, 8-6.
Winona won at No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles in straight sets.
Freshman 
Julia Geske was dominant at No. 1 singles for MSUM, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kaisey Skibba to improve to 9-8 in singles play this season. Konecne won at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tayla Card. Konecne is a team-best 14-1 in singles this season and has won 10 matches in a row.
MSUM will compete in the NSIC tournament on April 21 with a time and opponent to be determined.
