Dragon Women's Tennis Opens 2019 Season at Home

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opens the competition season on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. when they face Concordia College at the Courts Plus Tennis Facility in Fargo, N.D.

Last season, MSUM completed one of their most successful seasons in recent memory with a second-place finish at the NSIC Tournament. The Dragons reached the championship match for the first time ever, but fell to Augustana 5-0. Overall, the Dragons finished the season with a 16-4 record, with a 9-2 conference mark.

"After a great non-championship season, and a great start to practices, I can't wait for our first match. I'm excited about the strength of our returners, as well as our new freshman class," said head coach Oliver Summers. "I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the most motivated group of players I have ever worked with at MSUM."

MSUM returns sophomore Julia Geske who was named to the All-NSIC First Team after finishing 10-8 at No. 1 singles, including 7-4 in NSIC matches. Geske went 12-7 in doubles. Junior Alexis Konecne earned All-NSIC Honorable Mention honors in doubles and singles. Konecne was a team-best 16-1 in singles, including 9-1 in NSIC matches. She teamed up with Albert for an 8-1 doubles mark in NSIC contests.

MSUM's roster boasts two juniors, two sophomores, and four freshmen.

After their opening weekend, the Dragons travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. where they will face University of Sioux Falls and Augustana University (S.D.) on Feb. 9-10. MSUM will then travel to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus College and NSIC foes Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State on Feb. 16-17. The Dragons remain on the road on Feb. 22-23 as they face Bemidji State University and Minnesota Crookston in Crookston, Minn.

MSUM returns home to face Winona State and Upper Iowa on Mar. 1-2 at Courts Plus in Fargo before traveling to Orlando, Fla. For their annual spring trip. There will be three more NSIC matchups in March against U-Mary, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota Duluth before the NSIC Championships take place in Minnetonka, Minn. from April 12-14.
