ST. PETER, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women tennis team completed a weekend sweep with a 7-0 win over Minnesota State, Mankato in action Sunday morning in St. Peter, Minn.
MSUM is now 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while MSU fell to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.
"This was a fantastic turnaround, especially considering we had such a quick turnaround," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Every player used up their last bit of energy and left it all on the court."
The Dragons didn't lose a match on the day and swept all three doubles contests (the team that wins at least two of three doubles matches receives the team point).
Sophomore
Julia Geske and junior
Olivia Keelin rolled to a 6-1 win over Mankato's tandem of Erin Streeter and Monika Ryan at No. 1 doubles, while Dragon sophomore
Lorissa Yuen and freshman
Rachel Nguyen beat Tyanna Washa and Camila Ojeda, 6-3 at No. 2. Juniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood dominated Abby Smith and Valerie Bresnahan, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles for the Dragons, who are now 14-4 in doubles this season.
MSUM did not lose a set in singles. Geske swept Streeter, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Yuen swept Ryan, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2. Nguyen, Konecne, Keelin and Wood all won in straight sets.
The Dragons are 29-7 in singles matches this season.
MSUM is scheduled to face Bemidji State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in Grand Forks.
