GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over Bemidji State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Friday in Grand Forks, N.D.
MSUM is now 6-1 overall and in the league while Bemidji State fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.
"We started really slow and to be honest did not play well at all in doubles," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "It even took us a while to warm up in singles but we got the job done. Looking back the meet was probably never in doubt but our slow start made me nervous. An injury to Lorissa didn't help either."
The Dragons lost at No. 1 doubles but won at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the team point. Sophomore
Lorissa Yuen and freshman
Rachel Nguyen topped Breann Walsh and Brooke Mimmack, 7-6 at No. 2 for MSUM while juniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood beat Laney Rutkowski and Hannah Alme, 7-5 at No. 3.
MSUM won three of the four singles matches that finished. Sophomore
Julia Geske def. Zoe Lindgren, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 while Nguyen won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 over Ari Lopez at No. 2. BSU won at No. 3 but junior
Olivia Keelin rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mimmack. With the Dragons having earned the four team points to win the match the fifth and sixth singles matches were not completed.
