BISMARCK, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Sioux Falls to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Saturday in Bismarck, N.D.
MSUM is 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league while USF fell to 0-1 overall and in the league.
"I would say this was our first test this season against an experienced strong team, and I'd say we passed with flying colors," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "From the beginning, sweeping all doubles, right through the last match we never let up. Everyone put in great individual performances and supported each other."
The Dragons won all three doubles matches to earn the team point (teams that win at least 2 of the doubles matches receive one team point).
Julia Geske and
Olivia Keelin picked up a 6-2 win over Chloe Jefferies and Lexi Miller at No. 1, while freshman
Rachel Nguyen and sophomore
Lorissa Yuen beating Megan Quandt and Cueto-Ambrosio 7-5 at No. 2. Freshmen
Jalyn Kornblum and
Stevi Parker won at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 win over Rachel Klatt and Emily Applegate.
Geske outlasted Jefferies, 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 1 singles for the Dragons while Yuen rolled past Quandt, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Nguyen topped Miller, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while junior
Alexis Konecne won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1 over Joelle Thorfinnson.
Keelin rolled past Kelsie Sanders, 6-1, 6-1 at five singles while Kornblum earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Klatt at No. 6 to complete the sweep.
MSUM faces defending NSIC champion Augustana at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Bismarck.
