FARGO, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team won its seventh straight match on Saturday with a 6-1 win over Upper Iowa in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at Courts Plus in Fargo, ND.
MSUM is now 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the NSIC while Upper Iowa fell to 2-7 overall and 1-7 in the league.
"Today was a solid result," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "I'm glad we have such good depth in our lineup that we can pull from. It will be nice to have a day off on Sunday to rest before our first matches of spring break on Monday."
Sophomore
Julia Geske and junior
Olivia Keelin beat Upper Iowa's Shakhnaza Zhanatova and Markye Badenhorst at No. 1 doubles by a 6-2 score for MSUM. Juniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood added a 6-2 win over Lara Peco and Lavanya Singh at No. 2 doubles to give MSUM the team point.
Upper Iowa forfeited at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore
Lorissa Yuen topped Badenhorst, 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for MSUM while freshman
Rachel Nguyen beat Peco, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Freshman
Jalyn Kornblum rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Singh at No. 4 while freshman
Stevi Parker beat Chelsea Scott, 6-1, 6-0.
The Dragons will play five matches in Florida next week, starting on Monday vs. Grand Valley State. The match begins at 5:30 p.m. Central time in Orlando, Fla.
