MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball teams opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this week with three doubleheaders. MSUM will play at Northern State for a 7:30 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday. The Dragons are scheduled to host Upper Iowa and Winona State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively; those games could be moved to Aberdeen depending on field and weather conditions in Moorhead.
MSUM (6-11) enters conference play on a four-game winning streak. The Dragons went 6-3 on their Florida trip.
Sophomore
Becky Berth is hitting .333 with a homer and two RBI. Sophomore outfielder
Elizabeth Johnson is hitting .323 while redshirt freshman outfielder
Samantha Gjerde is hitting .315 with a homer and seven RBI while juniors
Emma Dummer (.309) and
Payton Gaber (.304) are also hitting over .300 on the season. Senior infielder
Taylor Roddie leads with three homers and 11 RBI.
On the mound Berth is 4-6 with a 3.05 ERA in 85 innings. She also has two saves. Freshman
Anna Lang has two wins on the mound this season as well.
Amanda Reckamp is in her first season as the MSUM head coach.
The opponents
Northern State
Northern State is 8-14 on the season. Senior Jamie Fisher leads the Wolves with a .404 average while sophomore Rachel Reinke is hitting .397 with three homers and 14 RBI. Sophomore Jen Martin is hitting .352 and leads the team with four homers and 19 RBI. On the mound Freshman Andrea Cherney is 3-6 with a 3.57 ERA in 49 innings. Jenny Fuller is in her second season as the NSU head coach with a record of 37-36.
Upper Iowa
Upper Iowa is 8-7 on the season. The Peacocks are scheduled to face Winona State prior to facing MSUM. Freshman Kaylee Frenette leads UIU with a .423 average while sophomore Katie Crogan is hitting .367 with a homer and 12 RBI. Junior Emily Kisch is 5-3 with a 3.30 ERA on the mound. Amanda Bradberry is in her sixth season as the UIU head coach with a record of 112-116.
Winona State
Winona State, which is scheduled to face Upper Iowa on Tuesday and Northern State on Saturday, is 15-5 on the season. Senior Lani Van Zyl is hitting .443 with a homer and 17 RBI while junior Alison Nowak is hitting .431 with a homer and 18 RBI. Junior Jordan Kleman is 7-1 with a 2.05 ERA on the mound. Greg Jones is in his 19th season as the Winona State head coach with a record of 762-261-4 at the school.
