ORLANDO, Fla. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in non conference action Friday in Orlando, Fla.
MSUM improved to 11-3 on the year.
"We're happy to get a win for our last match of the trip," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "Overall we were really happy with our level of competition and we got to experiment with a lot of different lineups."
In doubles, sophomore
Julia Geske and junior
Olivia Keelin beat Sonya Khudyakov and Junjia Lyu, 7-5 at the first slot while freshman
Rachel Nguyen and sophomore
Lorissa Yuen prevailed 6-2 at No. 2 for MSUM. At No. 3 juniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood topped Brenda Peng and Andrea Valencia, 7-6 as the Dragons took the team point in doubles.
MSUM split in singles. Yuen was leading 3-0 at No. 1 singles when her opponent, Sonya Khudyakov, retired, giving MSUM a point.
Nguyen prevailed over Santana Surapeneni, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles (which was the clinching match) while freshman
Jalyn Kornblum topped RPI's Brenda Peng, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
MSUM finished its Florida trip 2-2.
MSUM will face the University of Mary on Saturday, March 16 at noon in Bismarck, N.D.
