BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opened the 2020 season with a 7-0 non conference win over Hamline in action Saturday in Bloomington, Minn.
MSUM is now 1-0 on the year.
"It was a shame they only had five players but we still found a way to get everyone a match," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We even had a chance to try out a new combination in doubles. It certainly says something about the strength and depth of our team that we can switch things up and get results."
MSUM rolled to a pair of 6-1 wins in doubles. Seniors
Emma Wood and
Alexis Konecne rolled past Tessa Rugg and Megan Anderson, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while senior
Olivia Keelin and sophomore
Jalyn Kornblum topped Yee That and Janie Schwartz 6-1 at No. 2 to clinch the team doubles point.
The Dragons did not lose a set in singles. Junior
Julia Geske beat Rugg, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 while junior
Lorissa Yuen topped Anderson, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Sophomore
Rachel Nguyen beat Thao, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while sophomore
Emma Andersen beat Bae Wa, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore
Stevi Parker beat Schwartz, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
MSUM opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Saturday vs. Minnesota State, Mankato. The match begins at 3 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
