WINONA, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team won a hard-fought 5-2 decision over Winona State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Winona, Minn.
MSUM is now 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the NSIC with the win while Winona State fell to 4-2 overall and in the league.
MSUM won four singles matches in three sets.
"This one really went down to the wire," MSUM head coach 
Oliver Summers said. "We got a great start in doubles and then I was so proud of how hard everyone worked. Now we'll rest for a day and then start working towards next weekend."
The Dragons won the doubles team point with two wins in the three matches. At No. 1, junior 
Julia Geske and senior 
Olivia Keelin blanked Beth Murman and Kaisey Skibba, 6-0. Junior 
Lorissa Yuen and sophomore 
Jalyn Kornblum won 6-3 at No. 3 over Rina Niehoff and Tayla Card.
MSUM won three-set matches at No. 1, 2, 3 and 6 singles. Geske outlasted Merman, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1 while Yuen beat Kendra Kappes, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 2. Sophomore 
Rachel Nguyen beat Skibba by a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-5 score at No. 3 while Kornblum survived Niehoff, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Yuen's win at No. 2 singles was the clincher for MSUM.
Winona State won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles but it wasn't enough.
MSUM will face St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth in Bismarck, N.D., next weekend (Feb. 29-March 1).
