MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opens its home and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference seasons this weekend with a pair of matches. MSUM will face Minnesota State, Mankato at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Courts Plus in Fargo and then will face Southwest Minnesota State at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the same venue.
Prior to the match the United States Tennis Association will hold Kids Day from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Dragon players will be celebrities at the event, playing in some drills with the kids encouraged to stay and watch the Dragon match.
MSUM is 1-0 on the year after beating Hamline 7-0 to open the year last Saturday. The Dragons won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to get the team point. Seniors

Emma Wood won at No. 1 doubles by a 6-1 score while senior
Olivia Keelin and sophomore
Jalyn Kornblum won by the same score at No. 2 doubles.
The Dragons then won the five singles matches contested, along with a forfeit at No. 6. Juniors
Julia Geske and
Lorissa Yuen, sophomores
Stevi Parker,
Rachel Nguyen and
Emma Andersen all won in straight sets for the Dragons.
The Dragons were picked to finish second in the NSIC preseason coaches poll after finishing second in the conference tournament the past two seasons. They return their entire lineup from a year ago when the team went 16-4 overall and 10-1 in the league.
Oliver Summers is in his eighth season as the MSUM head coach.

The Mavericks, who were picked to finish eighth in the NSIC preseason coaches poll, opened the year with a 6-1 nonconference win over Northwestern (Iowa) on Jan. 31. MSU lost all three doubles matches but swept in singles to complete the win. Bailey Break Rolfsrud is in her first year as the MSU head coach.

The Mustangs are under the direction of first-year head coach Jon Parker. They open the season this weekend with UMary prior to facing MSUM. Cora Delich was listed as the SMSU Player to Watch after going 18-9 in doubles a year ago.
