FARGO, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team opened its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a dominating 7-0 win over Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC while Minnesota State fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1.
The Dragons did not lose a game in doubles to pick up the team point. At No. 1 junior
Julia Geske and senior
Olivia Keelin beat Monika Ryan and Tyanna Washa by a 6-0 score. At No. 2 doubles, seniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood also won by a 6-0 score over Dee Dokken and Lauren Goth. Junior
Lorissa Yuen and sophomore
Emma Andersen topped Kjerstin Hall and Sarah Johansen 6-0.
MSUM ice did not lose a set in singles, either, to complete the sweep. Geske beat Ryan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Yuen topped Dokken, 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore
Rachel Nguyen beat Tyanna Washa, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Konecne topped Lauren Goth, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Keelin rolled past Hall 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 while sophomore
Stevi Parker beat Johansen, 6-3, 6-4 to complete the win.
"This was a great start to the NSIC season," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We've been practicing all week on our doubles so it was nice to be able to not drop a game there. The singles of course wasn't too shabby either and everyone performed really well."
MSUM hosts Southwest Minnesota State at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Courts Plus in Fargo.
