Jonas Matzen recorded an NCAA provisional score in the
men's heptathlon.
FARGO, N.D. — Junior
Chris Cook set a school record in the high jump and senior
Jonas Matzen recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying score in the heptathlon to lead the Minnesota State University Moorhead track and field teams at the Bison Open on Saturday in Fargo, N.D. The event was hosted by North Dakota State.
Cook won the high jump in 7-0 1/2, topping the previous MSUM record of 7-0 1/4 he set at the NSIC Indoor Championships in 2019. Cook's jump is tied for second-best in the nation and tied for best in the NSIC this season with Minnesota State's Deveyonn Brown.
Matzen finished fourth in the men's heptathlon with 5,005 points which is 14th-best in the nation this season. That score is second-best in school history and best in the NSIC so far this season.
Senior
Nadir Yusuf won the 3,000-meter run in 8:34.95 while sophomore
Ty Dawkins won the 400 in 49.48. Sophomore
Shyrone Kemp won the long jump in 23-0 3/4.
Junior
Nick Marshall was fourth in the mile in 4:15.48 which was a personal-best time. He trailed three North Dakota State runners in that event.
Senior
Zach Sweep finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.42 while junior
Clay Jackson was fourth with a personal-best of 8.45.
For the Dragon women, sophomore
Caitlin Pritchett tied for third in the high jump at 5-4 1/4.
Sophomore
Anna Steadland ran a personal-best of 25.75 to finish fourth in the 200 and added a fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.83.
MSUM is slated to compete at the South Dakota State Classic next weekend. MSUM may also send some athletes to the Maverick Invitational hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato.
