FARGO, N.D. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead women's tennis team capped off an unbeaten weekend with a 7-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State in action Sunday at Courts Plus in Fargo, N.D.
MSUM is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while SMSU fell to 0-2 overall and in the league.
SMSU traveled just four players and had to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
MSUM won the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Seniors
Alexis Konecne and
Emma Wood beat Cora Delich and Paige Janka 6-2 at the No. 1 slot while senior
Olivia Keelin and sophomore
Stevi Parker won 6-1 at No. 2.
Junior
Lorissa Yuen won a tough battle with SMSU's Delich at No. 1 singles, taking a 6-3, 6-4 win. Sophomore
Rachel Nguyen topped Janka 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 while sophomore
Emma Andersen beat Cara Berkner, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore
Jalyn Kornblum beat Taylor Bonestroo by a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
"It's a shame they only had four players but we were able to get almost all of our athletes a match and rest one who had a slight injury," MSUM head coach
Oliver Summers said. "We enjoyed great home support, so thank you to all MSUM fans and staff who came out to support."
The Dragons will face Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston next weekend in Bismarck, N.D.
