MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team opens its home season on Saturday by hosting Mayville State for a nonconference doubleheader. The twinbill begins at noon at Scheels Field on the MSUM campus.
The Dragons are 2-6 on the season so far.
Junior outfielder Jordey Smith leads MSUM with a .316 average. Junior infielder Samantha Gjerde is hitting .304 with four RBI. Ally Helgoe had a homer and three RIB for MSUM.
On the mound junior Anna Lang (1-3) and freshman Reece Dahl (1-2) each have wins. Dahl leads with 11 strikeouts.
Amanda Reckamp is in her third season as the MSUM head coach.

About Mayville State
Mayville State is 0-4 on the season. The Comets fell to Dakota Wesleyan, 10-5 and the College of St. Mary on Feb. 20 in their last action. Dayna Gutierrez and Jocelyn Ontiveros are each hitting .455 for the Coments. Ontiveros has two homers and four RBI. Sidney Fairbanks has a team-best 3.86 ERA in 4.2 innings. Ashley Tomblin is in her seventh season as the Mayville State head coach.
