EMPORIA, Kan. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team dropped a pair of games to close the Emporia State Tournament on Sunday. The Dragons lost to Missouri-St. Louis, 4-1 and Southwest Baptist 10-4.
The Dragons are now 2-6 on the year.
In the loss to Missouri-St. Louis, junior second baseman
Samantha Gjerde was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI while senior third baseman
Emma Dummer was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Sophomore first baseman
Jade Hollands was 1-for-3. Junior shortstop
Kaiya Sundeen reached on a pair of walks for the Dragons.
Junior
Anna Lang took the loss on the mound for MSU, giving up four earned runs in six innings. Freshman
Reece Dahl pitched a scoreless seventh.
Against Southwest Baptist, MSUM managed five hits. The big blow was a three-run homer by junior designated hitter
Ally Helgoe in the fourth. Junior catcher
Jordie McNeilly was 1-for-3 with an RBI while senior center fielder
Elizabeth Johnson, Gjerde and Dummer had hits for MSUM.
Dahl gave up five earned runs (eight total) in five innings to take the loss. Lang pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
The Dragons' next action is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 vs. Mayville State. The nonconference twinbill begins at noon in Moorhead.
