MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 14-0 in five innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday. Game 2 was cancelled because of snow and cold.
MSUM fell to 7-22 overall and 5-10 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while USF improved to 14-15 overall and 8-7 in the league.
Senior center fielder Elizabeth Johnson had her first three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot. She has a five-game hitting streak.
Freshman designated hitter/shortstop Miah Hartvigsen was 1-for-2 while junior catcher Jordie McNeilly reached on a walk.
Freshman Reece Dahl gave up 12 earned runs in 2.1 innings, giving up nine hits and six walks. Sophomore Ashtyn Jurging gave up two earned runs in 2.2 innings, but didn't allow a run over the final two innings.
USF built a 9-0 lead after two innings, taking advantage of four walks while recording eight hits.
MSUM plays at UMary for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. in Bismarck, N.D.
