MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Minot State on Wednesday, falling 10-1 and 5-0 at the Nemzek Field in Moorhead, Minn. Senior third baseman Emma Dummer tied the MSUM career doubles record with her extra-base hit in Game 2.
MSUM's offense was held in check on the day, recording just seven hits.
In the opener, junior right fielder Jordey Smith was 1-for-1 with a run scored and also reached by a walk for MSUM. Dummer and junior second baseman Kaiya Sundeen were each 1-for-2.
Freshman Reece Dahl took the loss for MSUM, giving up 10 runs, seven earned) in four-plus innings. She walked 10 and hit two batters. Sophomore Kiley Washnieski pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one.
Dummer was 2-for-3 with a double in Game 2, and now has 33 career doubles, tying her with Leah Davis for the all-time lead at MSUM. Her next double will set a record. Smith was 1-for-2 while junior catcher Jordie McNeilly was 1-for-3,
Junior Anna Lang was solid on the mound in defeat, giving up five runs (three earned) in seven innings. She struck out three and walked two.
MSUM hosts Minnesota Crookston for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
