MITCHELL, S.D. -- In their second open tournament of the season, MSUM wrestling took on competition from all over the Midwest at the DWU Open hosted by Dakota Wesleyan University. Schools participating in the event included Augustana, Briar Cliff, Buena Vista, Dakota Wesleyan, Fort Hays State, Morningside, Minnesota West Community & Technical, Nebraska-Kearney, Northern State, Northwestern (Iowa), Ridgewater College, Southwest  Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, St. Thomas, Wayne State and York (Neb.).
The Dragons were paced in the open by a sixth place finish from freshman
Thomas Carrillo at 133 pounds.
Clayson Mele wrestled a 4-2 record today at 125 pounds while
Parker Benz went 1-2 at 141 pounds. Sophomore
Gunnar Mogen went 1-2 at 149 pounds for MSUMÂ with
Jonas Anez going 2-2 at 165 pounds.Â
Dragon veterans
Anthony Castro and
Samuel Grove each picked up wins in the open as well. Castro went 3-2 at 174 pounds with Grove going 2-2 at 197 pounds. Lastly, freshman 184-pounder
Caleb Vacura went 1-2 for MSUM. The Dragons also entered five unattached wrestlers, who went a combined 8-10 today in Mitchell.
The Dragons will open up dual competition this coming week against Concordia College. MSUM will welcome the Cobbers to Nemzek on Thursday at 7 p.m.
