MOORHEAD, Minn. -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will travel to Rosemont, Ill., to compete in the Rosemont Dome Tournament this week.
The Dragons will face Grand Valley State on Thursday at 8 p.m., Wayne State (Mich.) on Friday at 3:30 p.m., Hillsdale College on Saturday at 9 a.m., and Lewis University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Dragons are 1-3 on the season after going 1-3 at the Presentation Dome Tournament. Senior first baseman
Jordey Smith leads with a .385 batting average and also leads the team in hits with five hits on 13 at-bats. Smith also leads the team in doubles with 1.
On the mound senior Anna Lang is 1-1 with a 2.62 ERA. Sophomore Evey Evans has a save.
Mike Armitage is in his first season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
About Grand Valley State
The Lakers will begin their regular season at the Rosemont Tournament this weekend. The Lakers are led back onto the field by Seniors Taylor Rieger, Bailey Thatcher, Samantha Gehrls, and Janalee Lyke. Newcomers for the Lakers are Freshman Jaye Guichelaar, Morgan Spicer, and Kelsey Komorous. Dana Callihan enters into her eighth season as head coach at Grand Valley State.
About Wayne State
The Warriors will begin their regular season at the Rosemont Tournament this weekend. The Warriors are led back onto the field by Graduate Students Rose Myers and Emily Karas, as well as Seniors Avieri Ludwig, Paige Ameel, and Kassidy Moonen. Newcomers for the Warriors are Freshmen Rylie Josephson, Leah Wrubel, Jessie O'Donnell, Sydney Bogden, and Mady Ruczynski. Nicole Tines enters into her first season as head coach at Wayne State University in Michigan.
About Hillsdale College
The Chargers are 1-4 on the season after falling to Texas A&M – Kingsville two times last weekend. Senior Madison Stoner leads the team with a batting average of .500, followed closely by Junior Jenna Cantalupo and Senior Kasidy Carson with a batting average of .400 apiece. Madison Stoner also leads the team in hits with 6, followed by Kasidy Carson with 4. Kyle Gross is in his sixth season as head coach at Hillsdale College.
About Lewis University
The Flyers are 0-4 on the season after falling to Missouri Western and Minnesota State Mankato in their last two match-ups. Freshman Delaney Garden leads the team with a batting average of .500 with 10 at-bats, followed closely by Sophomore Evie Calderon with a batting average of .417 with 12 at-bats. Evie Calderon also leads the team in doubles with 3. Becky Pearl is in her eighth season as head coach at Lewis University.
