Dragon Softball Doubleheaders Moved to Wayne and Augustana

MOORHEAD -- The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will be on the road this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders. The Dragons will play at Wayne State (Neb.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and then play at No. 14 Augustana for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.

The games were originally scheduled to be played in Moorhead; however cold weather forecasts in the Moorhead area for the rest of the week caused the sites to be reversed. MSUM will be the home team in all four games

The Dragons are 5-23 on the season and 2-10 in the NSIC after falling twice to Sioux Falls and twice to Southwest Minnesota State University last weekend.

Freshman Eliyah McCarthy holds the best batting average on the team at .267, followed closely by freshman Avery Steffen and senior Jordey Smith with a batting average of .250 respectively. Avery Steffen also holds the team-high with two home runs and leads with 15 RBI.

On the mound senior Anna Lang leads with three wins.

Mike Armitage is in his first season as head coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead. 

About Wayne State  

The Wildcats are 8-27 on the season and 5-9 in the NSIC after defeating Southwest Minnesota State twice on Tuesday. Senior Kortney Buresh holds the best batting average on the team at .365. Senior Kim Vidlak and sophomore Jenna Etmans each have a team-high three home runs. On the mound Sami Felt is 4-7 with a 5.72 ERA in 72.1 innings. Shelli Manson is in her eighth season as head coach at Wayne State.

About Augustana 

The No. 14-ranked Vikings are 28-7 on the season and 12-2 in the NSIC after sweeping Sioux Falls on Tuesday.  Junior Gracey Brink holds the best batting average for the Vikings at .500, followed closely by Junior Torri Chute at .440. Senior Mary Pardo leads the team in home runs with 14. Mary Pardo also leads the team in triples with three. On the mound Amber Elliott is 11-2 with a 1.13 ERA and leads with 66 strikeouts in 74.1 innings. Gretta Melsted is in her 16th season as head coach at Augustana.
