MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team will play three doubleheaders on the road this week, starting Wednesday at St. Cloud State. The Dragons will play at Sioux Falls on Saturday and at Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday to wrap up the week.
 
The Dragons' doubleheader with St. Cloud State, which was originally scheduled to be played in Moorhead on Wednesday, will be played at the Husky Dome in St. Cloud because of inclement weather forecast for Moorhead. The games will be played at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in St. Cloud.
 
MSUM opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a 2-4 mark, sweeping Northern State before falling in sweeps at Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
 
The Dragons are led at the plate by freshman Eliyah McCarthy who is hitting .300. Senior first baseman Jordey Smith .269 with a team-best seven doubles and eight RBI while freshman third baseman/pitcher Avery Steffen leads with two homers and 14 RBI.
 
On the mound senior Anna Lang has a 3-6 record.
 
Mike Armitage is in his first season as the MSUM head coach.
 
About St. Cloud State
The Huskies are 18-9 overall and 6-0 in the NSIC and are in first place in the league.Jasmin Estrada is hitting .380 with two homers and seven RBI while Haley McFarlane is hitting .358 with four home runs and 13 RBI. Sydney Trees is hitting with 10 homers and 25 RBI. St. Cloud State is hitting .287 as a team with 34 home runs. Trinity Junker is 8-4 with a 1.14 ERA in 92.1 innings pitched. She has four shutouts and 98 strikeouts. Mitch Roberts is in his first season as the St. Cloud State head coach.
 
About Sioux Falls
The Cougars are 13-13 overall 1-4 in the NSIC and will face Concordia-St. Paul prior to facing MSUM.  Kylie Madrid is hittig .384 with five homers and 18 RBI for USF while Kait Vander Zwaag leads in home runs (seven) and RBI (25). Hanna Cress is 6-7 with a 3.74 ERA in 73 innings and leads with 52 strikeouts.
Shannon Pivovar is in her fourth season as the USF head coach.
 
 About SMSU
SMSU, which will play two doubleheaders prior to facing MSUM, is 11-18 and 3-3 in the NSIC. Bailey Johnson is hitting .400 with one homer and 16 RBI while Jillian Noel is hitting .368 with four homers and 17 RBI. Abby Russell is leading with 20 RBI. As a team the Mustangs are hitting .305 with seven home runs. On the mound Shelby Bloemendaal is 6-5 with a 5.33 ERA in 64.1 innings. Bailey Bouman is in her fourth season as the SMSU head coach.
