MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSUM had two bookend wins as 125-pounder
Clayson Mele and heavyweight
Andre Baguma picked up wins for the Dragons against fifth-ranked St. Cloud State. The Huskies would win the dual 34-6.
Mele began the dual with a huge decision win over St. Cloud State's Ashton Clark. Â The sophomore would grab a solid reversal on Clark to take a lead and would lean on the always-valuable riding time point for a 4-3 win. Mele scored an escape in the win.
Jacob Davis would come inches away from pinning eighth-ranked Joey Bianchini, but would collect four near fall points in the process. Bianchini would then show why he is nationally-ranked, scoring a technical fall over Davis at 4:43.
Jonas Anez and
Anthony Castro would each grab three escapes in their respective matches, but would ultimately fall in decision losses.
To close out the evening,
Andre Baguma faced off with St. Cloud State's Elijah Novak. In his last match, Novak bested the reigning national champions Darrell Mason of Minnesota State Mankato (who the Dragons will likely see tomorrow afternoon). On senior night, Baguma would grab an escape right away in the second period before Novak did the same in the third. With under 15 seconds remaining in the match, Novak was called for stalling, giving Baguma the winning point. The senior would win 2-1 over Novak.Â
