Carrillo Battles for Overtime Win, MSUM Drops Dual to Mavs 30-9

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Thomas Carrillo battled for an overtime decision win against Mankato's Isaiah Mlsna to highlight MSUM's efforts in their finals NSIC dual of the 2022-23 season. The Mavs won the dual 30-9.

MSUM would pick up their first win of the day thanks to a forfeit at 125 pounds. A day after taking home a decision win, Clayson Mele took home another after the intermission.

Following that forfeit win, Thomas Carrillo took to the mat for a match-up with Mankato's Isaiah Mlsna. Carrillo battled back late in the third period to trail 7-6. Thankfully, the freshman possessed the riding time point with time expiring to pull even at seven points apiece. In the extra session, the Rio Rancho, N.M., native fought for the match-winning takedown within a minute of the overtime period commencing. Carrillo finished the match with three takedowns, a reversal, an escape and a riding time point.

In the final match of the day, Peyton Ringling scored three takedowns and an escape, but was unable to grab a late takedown for the decision win over Mankato's Drake Hayward. Ringling would drop the match 9-7.

The Dragons also had several wrestlers compete at the Tyler Plummer Classic hosted by Dickinson State University today.
