FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead track & field kicked off the 2023-24 indoor season with a strong showing at the NDSU-hosted Dakota Alumni Classic.
MSUM's men's team finished second as a team with 56 team points. The Dragon women finished fifth overall with 36 points.
Ashley Hokanson picked up where she left last season as the senior would win the pole vault running away, clearing 13-01.5 (4.00m) which is an NCAA provisional mark. Hokanson won the event by a full foot.
Ibrahim Oduong led the Dragon charge in running events, winning the 400m with a time of 48.74, which is nearly an NCAA provisional time.
Elliott MacLennan would place fifth in the same race with a time of 50.99.
Jerome Crayton was MSUM's top finisher in the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.66, a new indoor personal-best for the senior. The Dragon 4x400m team finished fourth in the event to close the meet with a time of 3:35.37.
Shavantae Roberts would put in a strong sprints showing to open her season, clocking a 7.69 in the 60m dash to finish runner-up. The time is a new indoor personal-best for Roberts with the time being the third-fastest in school history. Roberts also placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.43 which is another personal-best and is now the seventh-fastest in MSUM history.
David Daniels would place fifth in the 60m dash on the men's side with a time of 7.07.
MSUM's jumpers turned in solid performances throughout the meet,
Tyler Missick placed third in men's high jump with a top leap of 6-07 (2.01m).
Hunter Miller placed sixth in the same event with a mark of 6-03.25 (1.91m) to kick of his collegiate career.
McKenna Schreiber was the top finisher on the women's side in long jump, placing eighth with a top jump of 17-04 (5.28m).
Shyrone Kemp continued to dominate at NDSU-hosted events, winning men's long jump with a mark of 23-01.25 (7.04m).
David Daniels placed fifth in the same event with an indoor personal-best of 21-11.5 (6.69m)
In throws action,
Codi Bunting and
Kiley Kranz finished 16th and 17th respectively in women's weight throw. Bunting tossed a collegiate-best 40-08.75 (12.41m) while Kranz began her collegiate career tossing a best of 40-04.75 (12.31). Kranz would finish sixth in the shot put as well with a top throw of 40-01.25 (12.22m). On the men's side,
Darius Sechen had a great start to the year, throwing a personal-best of 45-0.5 (13.73m) to finish sixth overall in the weight throw. Sechen also set an indoor personal-best of 40-06.75 (12.36m) in the shot put as well.
