Balluff's Record-Setting Scorecards Pace Dragons at Watkins Invitational

| By:
LAKE CITY, Minn. – MSU Moorhead sophomore Halle Balluff set new 18 and 36-hole school records to lead Dragon golf at the Winona State-hosted Watkins Invitational.

Balluff shot an opening round 75 to reset the MSUM school record held by Chelsey (Ouren) McGinnis (76), which has stood since 2009. With a 76 in round two, Balluff's 151 cumulative score also becomes a new 36-hole low. The previous record, also held by McGinnis, was 159. Balluff finished eighth on the individual leaderboard.

As a team, MSUM finished seventh overall, shooting a cumulative 674, including a 333 in round two on Tuesday.

Weather marred Monday's first round as only part of the round was completed with MSUM finishing at least 10 holes on day one. Day two saw the conclusion of round one where the Dragons shot a collective 341 through the first 18 holes of play. Balluff led the way with her school record 75, highlighted by a birdie and just five bogeys in the round. The Moorhead native was tied for fifth place overall after the first round.

Madison Braun also had a strong opening round, turning in an 83 on her scorecard with eight pars. Ellie Fischer was just behind Braun, shooting an 85 in round one with eight pars and a birdie. Fischer birdied the par three 15th hole at The Jewel. Rounding out the scoring contingent in round one was Erin Summerbell who shot a 98 while Charmaine Haas shot a 100 as an individual.

Balluff would continue her strong play with a second round 76 as she would collect a pair of double bogeys before rallying back and notching an eagle on the par four third hole at The Jewel. The sophomore would birdie a hole later to continue her strong momentum towards the 36-hole record. Erin Summerbell would continue her trend of strong second rounds by improving by 14 strokes to shoot an 84. Summerbell had seven pars in her final round. Madison Braun would shoot an 85 with six pars while Ellie Fischer turned in an 88 with birdies on the par three fifth and par four 12th holes. Charmaine Haas also dialed in her game in round two, improving by 11 strokes for a final round 89.

MSUM would shoot a cumulative 333 in the final round which was just six strokes off of the school record.
