MITCHELL, S.D. -- MSU Moorhead wrestling improved in their second week of the 2024-25 season as five Dragons were placewinners at the Dakota Wesleyan Open.
Anthony Sykora led MSUM with a weight class championship at 174 pounds.
Sykora would dominate the 174-pound bracket on Saturday, collecting five wins en route to a weight class championship. The sophomore had a pair of tech fall wins on the day and collected a sudden victory decision as well. In the weight class championship, Sykora won a spirited bout with Dakota Wesleyan's Jagger Tyler, winning 15-13.
Isaiah Huus would also look strong for the Dragons, earning third place at 197 pounds. Huus had a pair of pins in his four wins on the day, including a sticking at 44 seconds against Augustana's Jaret Peterson.
Wayne Mellon picked up four wins at 184 pounds to earn fifth place in the weight class. Mellon rallied after a first-round loss to win four straight, headlined by a tech fall and a 25 second pin over Bismarck State's Jesse Bearsheart.
Clayson Mele would also earn a fifth-place finish at 125 pounds, concluding his tournament with two wins with both coming by technical fall.
Jacob Reinardy rounded out the Dragon placewinners with a fifth-place finish at 157 pounds. Reinardy won three straight matches to begin his day, including a pin at 1:31 over Minot State's Tristan Pekas.
