MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead wrestling dropped an NSIC dual with top-ranked St. Cloud State on Thursday evening. The Huskies bested the Dragons, 45-0.
Prior to dual action,
Burak Bowers narrowly fell in exhibition action to Donnie Hidden at heavyweight. Bowers dropped the match by a narrow decision, 2-0. St. Cloud State would claim the first two weights by technical fall and major decision to lead 9-0 in team scoring. At 141 pounds,
Pedro Velazquez would battle hard in the third period against eighth-ranked Alyeus Craig. Velazquez trailed by seven points entering the final frame, but would get Craig in a precarious position with time waning. The junior had Craig cradled and nearly turned him over for a sure-fire pin. Unfortunately for Velazquez, Craig would stave off the burst as time expired before Velazquez could make the final move.
The Huskies would grab technical falls in the next three matches to cement the team score. At 174 pounds,
Mason Gode would earn a takedown, but would be unable to make a late comeback against Bryce Dagel. Gode dropped the match via decision, 10-3. St. Cloud State would win the final three matches of the evening to claim the 45-0 win.
