PITTSBURG, Kan. -- MSU Moorhead seniors
Shyrone Kemp,
Ibrahim Oduong and
Braxton Bruer all laid claim to First Team All-America status to cap the Dragon efforts at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Senior
Shyrone Kemp would cap his historic Dragon career with a third place finish in the triple jump. Kemp warmed up with a first leap of 49-5 (15.06m) and would improve in jump number two, registering a 50-7.5 (15.43m). In his third attempt, Kemp would tally his best leap of the day with a mark of 51-2.25 (15.60m) to move him into second place. However, the leap would come at a cost as Kemp tweaked a previous ankle injury on the jump. Because of the injury, Kemp would pass his fourth attempt and would not eclipse his best mark in the final two leaps. The Jones Town, Bahamas, native earned another First Team All-America honor with a third place finish in the event.
Kemp concludes his career as potentially one of the greatest overall jumpers in MSU Moorhead history. He ends his Dragons career holding school records in the indoor and outdoor triple jump while bolstering a total of six All-America honors and eight NSIC championships.
Ibrahim Oduong would continue his strong weekend in the 400m finals as the Bismarck, N.D., product clocked a 47.69 in the race. While it was a touch slower than Oduong's preliminary time of 47.45, it was still a strong showing from the senior. Oduong would place fifth overall in the event and would earn his first career First Team All-America distinction.
In the men's 800m final,
Braxton Bruer would register a 1:55.40 to finish eighth in the final race of his indoor career. Bruer blazed out of the gate with a 26.47 split in the first 200m. The senior would garner his second indoor All-America nod in the process with Saturday's finish being his first career trip to the First Team after earning Second Team honors last season.
