NSIC ODTF Day Two: Stueven Earns Steeple Title, Roberts Keeps Crushing Records

MANKATO, Minn. – MSU Moorhead track & field was led by an NSIC title performance in the 3000m steeplechase from Adnew Stueven on day two of the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Sprinter Shavantae Roberts clocked a pair of school records for the Dragons in preliminary action as well.
 
Sprints/Hurdles
 
Shavantae Roberts would be the headline of the day for the Dragon sprinters, earning a spot in the 100m finals with a blazing performance. Roberts reset her own school record again in Friday's preliminaries, marking an incredible 11.51. It is the sophomore's third time breaking the record this season and is the 19th-fastest 100m in the country. 
 
Roberts was not done there as she would topple her second school record of the day in 200m. The sophomore would register an unreal time of 23.79 to best Robynn Rolle-Curry's previous mark of 23.97. The time is an NCAA provisional mark for Roberts and is also the 19th-fastest 200m in Division II this season. Roberts will compete in tomorrow's 200m finals with the performance. 
 
Ibrahim Oduong won the preliminary of the men's 400m dash as Oduong would clock a facility record 47.80 to qualify for tomorrow's final. Jerome Crayton would also earn a spot in tomorrow's 400m final with a prelim time of 48.99 to finish eighth.
 
In the women's 400m hurdle preliminaries, Brooke Baumann would conclude her year with a fresh personal best of 1:07.20. 
 
Jumps
 
Tyler Missick would earn All-NSIC distinction in men's high jump as the junior cleared 6-07.50 (2.02m). The performance is a season best output for Missick in outdoor high jump. McKenna Schreiber would collect a new personal best in women's long jump, leaping 17-07.50 (5.47m) to finish 13th overall. In men's long jump, David Daniels earned a top ten finish, placing ninth with a jump of 23-11 (7.29m).
 
Throws
 
Katelyn Zaiger would earn another personal best in women's hammer throw, tossing a 139-00 (42.37m). Zaiger's previous best was 132-11 (40.52m). In women's shot put, Kiley Kranz would throw a 39-05 (12.01m) while Brennan Sellheim registered a 47-10.50 (14.59m). It was the first outdoor conference meet for both Kranz and Sellheim. Darius Sechen would toss a 156-03 (47.63m), narrowly missing his personal best of 158-6 (48.32m).
 
Distance
 
James Dorado kicked off distance work for the Dragons in the men's 10,000m run, finishing fifth overall with a time of 32:07.97. Brett Kurschner would also earn a top ten finish with a personal best time of 33:06.71. Chase Hoechst would finish just behind Kurschner, placing 11th with a mark of 33:08.88. Joel Brault would clock a personal best in the same race with a time of 33:53.09. 
 
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Grace Dorsher would run an 11:5735 to finish 13th overall. On the men's side, Adnew Stueven would cruise to his first-ever NSIC championship, crossing the line at 9:20.93. The time won Stueven the race by nearly nine seconds and earned him his second straight All-NSIC honor in the 3000m steeplechase. 
 
Colin O'Farrell, Jared Gregoire and Braxton Bruer would all qualify for the 1500m run finals on Saturday. O'Farrell led the way, finishing fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 3:58.78. Gregoire (4:01.88) and Bruer (4:01.96) would finish sixth and seventh respectively. 
 
The same distance trio would qualify for tomorrow's 800m final with O'Farrell winning the preliminaries with a time of 1:57.16. Gregoire and Bruer would finish third and fourth respectively with Gregoire running a 1:57.91 and Bruer a 1:57.22.
 
The NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrap up tomorrow with field events commencing at 11 a.m. Running events are slated to start at 1:05 p.m.
